Welcome to MackGallery
“The process of painting should reflect the intrinsic nature of change in order to retain both spontaneity and sincerity.” This belief is expressed through the art of Lisa Mack, born in Los Angeles in 1962. Although Mack’s formal education culminated in a Master of Fine Arts degree from Central Washington University, she considers the influence of her father, an accomplished illustrator, sculptor and painter, her main source of inspiration. Her current series include shaped canvases that simultaneously vacillate between sculpture and painting, as well as contemporary versions of the “momento mori” genre. These works express the ambiguous nature of time and its effect on our perception of mortality. Mack’s paintings shift continually between illusionary space and the emphasis of flat surface, creating tension between the material and the ethereal. Her work has won numerous awards in exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and Budapest, Hungary.
